Become a Host Family

Hosting an international student is one of the most rewarding experiences that you and your family can have! Students come from a variety of countries and, as hosts, you can review student applications to decide who would be a good match for you prior to their arrival.

The ISP screening process for new host families is rigorous. ISP high school host families must undergo a criminal background check. All host families are interviewed in their homes by an area coordinator prior to being accepted to the program. We are always seeking good, qualified host families who can provide a positive and supportive environment to an international student. Host families are personally screened and interviewed in their homes and selected on the basis of their ability to provide a safe and secure environment.

To be considered for ISP, prospective host families must demonstrate a strong interest in young people from other cultures. Applicants solely interested in financial compensation are discouraged from applying.

A host family generally lives within a five to seven mile radius from the student’s school, to which the student typically commutes by bus. Hosts are a variety of ages and can be families with children, single adults, couples without children, single parents, and retired people. In addition, hosts come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, which represents the diversity of the U.S.

ISP offers our students an array of programs. To apply to be a host family, please download the host application, then complete and mail or fax it to the ISP main office. We will route it to the ISP coordinator that works in your area for review.
